My husband went to the store and never came back : forty years later, I saw him again at the train station

😦 My husband went to the store and never returned. Forty years later, I saw him again at the train station. With tears in his eyes, he said to me, “You’re not going to believe what happened to me.”

It has now been forty years since my husband disappeared. One day, while I was cooking, I asked him to go buy some milk, and that was the last time I saw him.

At first, I thought he had just run into a friend or a neighbor and was late. But as the day went on, my concern grew.

When he didn’t come home that night, I called the store. The cashier told me they hadn’t seen him all day. None of our neighbors or friends had seen him either.

I didn’t hesitate and contacted the police. When they came to our house, they asked a few questions and assured me they would find him quickly.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Rumors started circulating among the neighbors. Some said he had run away, others claimed I had kicked him out.

As time passed, I began to lose all hope. And then, forty years later, one morning, I found an envelope in the mailbox, with no return address.

Inside, there was a single sentence: “Hurry up and go to the train station.” The handwriting was unfamiliar, but I immediately thought it was from him. So, I rushed.

When I arrived at the train station, I saw him. A man sitting on a bench, his hands clenched on his knees. His hair was white, his back slightly hunched, but it was definitely him.

I approached, my heart racing. He turned to me, smiled, and said, “You’re not going to believe what happened to me.”

“They kidnapped me, Clara,” he began, his voice weak.

“Forty years ago, men captured me on the street and forced me into a car.

I had a huge debt, and they made me work for them.

They knew everything about me, about you, about the kids.

They threatened to kill you if I tried to run or contact you.”

Tears were streaming down my face. “Why didn’t you escape?”

“I tried, but they had allies everywhere. Even if I ran, they would come after you.”

“After a raid by the FBI, I had a chance, but I was captured again. They offered me a deal: work undercover in exchange for my family’s safety.”

“Finally, they were arrested, and I’m free,” he said.
