Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic – An event that has deeply shocked the country occurred on the night of Sunday

, August 24, in the Ensanche Isabelita neighborhood, where a mother and her three minor children died in circumstances that are being investigated by authorities.

The woman was identified as Pennsylvania Mercedes Jiménez Valdez, 36, who allegedly gave a toxic substance to her children,

ages 11, 9, and 7, and then ingested it herself. The case has generated great consternation due to the magnitude of the tragedy and the fact that it occurred within a family setting.

According to the preliminary report from the National Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office,

containers containing a liquid mixed with juice containing the substance allegedly used were found at the scene. A handwritten letter, attributed to the mother, was also found and is currently being analyzed to confirm its authenticity.

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to determine the motivations and exact circumstances that led to this outcome, while reiterating the need to strengthen emotional and psychological support programs to prevent such tragedies.

The Ensanche Isabelita community remains distraught, while family members and neighbors

have expressed their grief and shock over what happened, emphasizing that they never imagined the family’s situation could lead to such a regrettable event.
