At the restaurant in the city center, few employees ever stayed long. Three, maybe four months — then another one would slam the door and leave. Everyone knew why: the owner, a rude and arrogant man, believed he had the right to treat people like trash.
He could humiliate anyone — a waiter, a cook, a cleaner. He saw himself as a king, and everyone else as worthless.
Recently, a new girl had started working there. Young, modest, quiet. She was hired as a dishwasher, barely talked to anyone, and just tried to do her job as best she could. She never argued, even when people shouted at her — she would simply lower her eyes and keep working.
But one day, the owner lost his temper — he decided he didn’t like the way she washed the dishes.
— How do you even wash these plates? — he yelled, pointing at her angrily. — You can’t even clean a dirty dish properly! What good are you? You’re pathetic.
— I can do everything, — the girl said softly, holding back tears.
— Oh really? You can do everything? — he sneered. — Well, let’s see. The cook just quit, and our guests will be here in an hour. Since you can do everything, you’ll be cooking tonight. I’ll personally introduce you to them and tell them this is your creation. Let’s see them laugh!
— But I’m not a chef, — she whispered.
— Don’t argue. Do as you’re told, or you’re fired.
He thought he would humiliate her in front of everyone. That when the guests complained about her food, she’d leave on her own. But what happened next shocked everyone 😲😢

The girl stood for a long time in front of the stove, her hands trembling as she pulled ingredients out of the fridge. Then suddenly, something inside her shifted.
The smells, the movements, the combinations — they all came back to her. She began to move confidently, as if she were back in her old kitchen, where she had once been a head chef, before losing her parents, falling into depression, and being unable to work. Because of that, she had been fired and blacklisted from restaurants.
When the guests arrived, the waiters brought out the dishes she had prepared. The room fell silent until one man — gray-haired, in an expensive suit — tasted the first bite. He looked up and asked:
— Who cooked this?
The owner smiled smugly and said loudly:
— That girl over there. My dishwasher. Can you believe it?
He expected laughter and mockery, but instead, the man stood up, walked over to her, pulled out a business card, and said:
— I own my own restaurant. We’re looking for a talented chef. If you agree, the job is yours.
The owner turned pale. He couldn’t believe that he had tried to humiliate her — and in the end, he was the one who gave her the chance to start over.
The girl quit that same day. She walked out of the restaurant with a light heart and smiled — for the first time in a long while.
